If you really want to delve into the Sainsbury Centre collections, you can train to be a Guide, and share your enthusiasm and knowledge with our other visitors.

If you become a Guide, you will:

  • Welcome visitors to the Sainsbury Centre
  • Give general tours of the building and the Sainsbury Collection to adult and school groups
  • Give informed talks about our temporary exhibitions and on other themed subjects.

You will need to have:

  • An interest in world art
  • An interest in, and enthusiasm for, the Sainsbury Centre and its activities
  • A clear voice, a friendly, pleasant manner and a liking for communication.

The training costs £260 (£185 concessions). It involves:

  • A 27-week course (one day a week, September to May), which covers all aspects of the building and collections as well as presentation skills and working with children and adults
  • Attending lectures, submitting essays and giving talks and presentations.

After training, you will need to commit to:

  • At least one day per month guiding at the Centre
  • Attendance at monthly meetings and visits to keep up-to-date with current developments at the Centre.

Once becoming a guide, you will benefit from:

  • The opportunity to learn about a spectacular modern building and an outstanding collection of world art
  • The pleasure of communicating with people of all ages
  • Becoming part of an 60 strong team of like minded people
  • The opportunity to deepen your interests and become involved in the education programmes at the Centre alongside the Sainsbury Centre's team of staff.

Join the Guides!

If you register your interest by filling in the form below, we will keep you informed of when the next course is likely to run (please note the course does not run every year).
